Built in downtown Steamboat
Springs during the winter of 1999, this project received national recognition
by the American General Contractors Association of Colorado. In 2000,
it was recognized with an Award for Construction Excellence for projects
under $3 million. Not only was the site difficult to construct on due to the fact that it was an infill project surrounded by a city street, a Colorado Highway, an alley access, and a 30,000 square foot building, but the site, previous to construction, was a gas station. This required that an active water monitoring system be left in place to remedy the environmental contamination. This, along with other obstacles such as old car parts found during the initial excavation and unsuitable bearing soils challenged the team’s ingenuity.
